Goku and Vegeta are the pillars of theDragonballfranchise. Even though Akira Toriyama created Goku first, it is as if they were made at the same time. Goku debuted inDragonball, while Vegeta debuted as a villain in Dragonball Z. The anime has achieved iconic status, and the transformations in it are the best in the whole anime world.

Vegeta vs Goku - Dragonball

There is hardly anyone who has ever heard ofDragonballand does not love Goku. But there is a certain aspect that makes him a foolish fighter. That trait has been with him forever. It is his lack of killer instinct. Even though it has helped him a couple of times, there are situations when it badly backfired. Here are two incidents when his lack of killer instinct was a good thing.

2Fight With Vegeta

The Saiyan saga ofDragonball Zfeatured Vegeta as the main antagonist. He is a proud Saiyan prince, who came to retrieve Goku back to his roots and destroy the Earth. But it was the Earth’s mighty heroes who stopped him from continuing his rampage. The arc featured the first fight between Goku and Vegeta. It was an intense fight and stretched on for quite a few episodes. But in the end, it was Gohan who defeated Vegeta after becoming an ape.

Even though Vegeta wanted to destroy the planet, Goku’s lack of killer instinct made him forgive Vegeta and let him escape. This was a huge development in the anime’s history. Because of it, everyone got to enjoy one of the best dynamic duos in the anime world.

1Fight With Piccolo

Piccolo was the main antagonist ofDragonball. People who first watchedDragonball Z, might not believe this, but it is the truth. Piccolo was a bad guy who wanted to rule the Earth. It was kid Goku that stopped him from doing so. During that time, Goku was more of a natural martial artist than the world-saving Super Saiyan we know today.

He had Kamehameha up his sleeve but it was a headbutt that knocked Piccolo out of the ring. Piccolo was injured but Goku offered him a Senju bean. Piccolo recovered and vowed to return later. This was the second incident when his lack of killer instinct helped him earn a valuable ally. Piccolo also trained his son Gohan inDragonball Z.

Cell

After praising Goku’s lack of killer instinct, it is time to see two examples, when his lack of killer instinct almost cost his life.

2Fight With Cell

The Cell saga inDragonball Zis one of the most iconic arcs of the series. As the name suggests, Cell was the antagonist of that saga. Cell had three forms – Imperfect, Semi-Perfect, and Perfect. He could have been easily defeated by Vegeta, but his ego to let Cell transform became his doom. After becoming perfect, Goku faced him during the Cell Games. Even though Goku had the upper hand, his lack of killer instincts, proved to be fatal.

Goku offered Cell a Senju bean to power up and face Gohan. Gohan outclassed Cell, but Cell had one last trick up his sleeve. He tried to self-destruct himself. Goku made the ultimate sacrifice by teleporting him to King Kai’s planet. If he had not given the Senju bean, Cell would have died much earlier.

1Fight With Moro

Moro is one of the strongest foes that the Z warriors have ever faced. Moro used to devour planets to gain power. During his fight with Goku, Moro almost killed him by piercing his chest with his bare hands. After Goku regained his strength, the fight continued, But this time, Goku was slowly gaining on him and ultimately defeated him. Moro begged for mercy. Like always Goku gave him a Senju bean. Moro tried to punch him after having the Senju bean but was too weak to land a strong punch.

Later, Moro became a giant and tried to devour the planet. But the Z warriors somehow managed to destroy him once and for all. This is the most recent incident when his lack of killer instinct could have been fatal for the planet. He should have finished him instead of giving him a Senju bean.
