We’re coming to the end of the summer showcasing season, but that doesn’t mean we’re not still getting some gigantic and surprising reveals! The majority of the Annapurna Interactive showcase went by without much of a hitch, and nothing particularly interesting or unsurprising, other than the last five minutes that is.
Straywas announced to be heading to Xbox, after the exclusivity deal the developer had with PlayStation and Sony has ran out, but in much more shocking news, we’re getting a game set entirely in the Blade Runner universe!
Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth
Fans of the sci-fi franchise will be ecstatic to hear that we’re finally getting another video game set in the deep and mysterious universe of Blade Runner. Now, not much is known about it currently, but it does look like we’ll be taking on the role of an LAPD cop, who, for whatever reason, is spending his days looking through cases and the memories of long dead, long forgotten individuals.
We have no idea what type of game it’s going to be, but a fair bet would be some sort of investigative ordeal. Whether it’s closer to the likes ofHeavy Rainthan it isMurdered: Soul Suspector the countlessSherlock Holmesgames is again, unknown, but we can’t wait to find out!
Setting the game in between the two film franchise entries is a pretty smart move narratively, as it allows the fans to see familiar locations and perhaps nods to the original, whilst largely pretending the less-than-well-received modern sequel didn’t happen. Whether we see characters from either film is up-in-the-air, but at the very least, expect easter eggs towards them. You can’t have aBlade Runnervideo game and not mention Deckard, right?

This is the first time we’ll be venturing into the universe since the poorly received 1997 game, but will you be buyingBlade Runner 2033: Labyrinthupon release? There isn’t a release date or window, but it does say the title will be coming to PC and consoles, and being Annapurna’s first fully in-house produced game, they’ll be pulling out all the stops to verify it’s the first their successful in-house produced game as well. Are you excited byBlade Runner 2033: Labyrinth?
