Its success could possibly determine if other legacy characters can get their own films as well. However, even now, many are asking one question- what makes Sam Wilson different from Steve Rogers? As per Mackie, it’s his lack of powers and vulnerability.

Anthony Mackie Revealed What Made His Captain America Different From Chris Evans’

In an interview with Inverse,Anthony Mackierevealed that it is Sam Wilson’s lack of superpowers that make his Captain America different from that of Chris Evans’ supersoldier serum-charged Steve Rogers. After all, since Wilson lacks the unnatural strength and almost invulnerability that Rogers has, so he has to use his brain more. Mackie explained:

“It’s more so about his ability to connect and counsel. He’s not as rash to bear arms as Steve Rogers was. Having a super serum makes you impossible to beat, so your answer to everything is to fight it out. Whereas Sam Wilson can actually die pretty easily.”

The actor further explained that Sam Wilson has to be more aware of his surroundings so that he can use them to his advantage. In fact, it sounds like Mackie’s Captain America will be more of a diplomat rather than a soldier who jumps straight into action. The MCU star said:

Superman in DC comics

“He definitely has the ability to, not manipulate, but understand someone’s shortcomings. Give them words of encouragement so that they’re not forced to action. The physical aspect of it is the last resort. He realized that his ability is not to change the world with force; it’s about giving people the wherewithal and the recognition that they deserve so that they can make a change.”

The actor’s words make it sound like Sam Wilson will embody DC hero Superman more than Steve Rogers’ Captain America. After all, just like the Kryptonian hero, it looks like Mackie’s captain will look to lead with compassion and kindness first.
