At the time when this classic was about to make progress, there were some other big-name actors considered for the lead parts – with the likes of Jared Leto, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Matthew McConaughey all at one point having the conversation, before Winslet and DiCaprio signed on to the film.
Among these actors, one potential pair was Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. In addition, reports suggested that Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder were also in discussions for these parts. Eventually, the roles were given to those who deserved them.

As reported by Rolling Stones, Winslet was deeply affected and cried buckets after reading the script. Finally, she convinced James Cameron by calling him on his car phone and giving him a rose.
