If the topic is about the mega superhero franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe certainly needs no introduction. Since its inception, the franchise has given numerous superhero films, introducing iconic superheroes. Despite having a massive worldwide fanbase, there has always been a debate about whether the superhero franchise qualifies as real cinema or not.

Previously, legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino made a statement related to this topic where he claimed that the characters of superhero films are the main stars, not the actors portraying them. Marvel actor Chris Evans surprisingly agreed with the director on this, but Tarantino’s frequent collaborator Samuel L. Jackson expressed his disagreement with Tarantino’s statement.
Chris Evans believes that the character is more important than the actor portraying it
Chris Evansis one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood who is popularly known for portraying Marvel’s beloved character Captain America. Recently during an interview withGQ, the actor reflected on his opinion of playing the character and its importance.
The actor said that despite being in the lead role, Captain America felt like a supporting role. He said,

“That was the beauty of working on Marvel films. You never really had to be front and center. Even in your own films sometimes.”

Evans’s statement echoed Quentin Tarantino’s opinion on Marvel films. Previously, during an appearance on a podcast, Tarantino said,
“Part of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood is, you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters, but they’re not movie stars. Captain America is the star.”

Evans agreed with Tarantino’s statement and claimed that the role of Captain America was more crucial for the film than his performance.
However, another Marvel star and Tarantino’s frequent collaborator Samuel L. Jackson condemned the statement and supported the efforts of the actors to bring the superhero character to life.
