Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther Proved Former Marvel Entertainment CEO Wrong

The superhero movie genre has gained incredible traction among fans over the last decade or so. Marvel Cinematic Universe deserves the most credit for it. But despite the movies’ insane popularity, if there’s one thing which they lag, it is winning Academy Awards.

However, the wait to win the first Academy Award for MCU was finally over following the release ofBlack Panther. An excerpt from The Reign of Marvel Studios book explains how former Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac Perlmutter didn’t believe in spending money on the Oscars campaign for Marvel movies.

Disney, unfettered from New York’s cost-conscious ways, spent the money for a serious Black Panther Oscars campaign, an expense that Ike Perlmutter had always avoided with Marvel’s other movies. Black Panther ended up with seven nominations.

But did the 2018 masterpiece receive its much-deserved recognition? The answer is a resounding yes.

The movie would ultimately win three Oscars: Ludwig Göransson for Best Original Score, Ruth E. Carter for Best Costume Design, and Hannah Beachler for Best Production Design (the first time a Black person had even been nominated in that category).

Chadwick Boseman’sBlack Pantherwinning three Oscars proved Marvel’s former boss, Isaac Ike Perlmutter, wrong. The importance of those Academy Awards paved a new path to success for the MCU.

How Many Oscars Have MCU Movies Won?

ConsideringBlack Pantherwas released back in 2018 and bagged three Academy Awards in 2019, many expected the MCU to continue receiving such honors.

However, no MCU movie outside of theBlack Pantherhas ever won another Academy Award. In total, MCU movies have received a combined 26 nominations, but as we mentioned earlier, they have only won three.

With the Multiverse Saga in full flow, future MCU movies may receive more Oscar nominations. But there’s no guarantee that they will actually win the honor.

In the end, Chadwick Boseman and the entireBlack Pantherteam played a crucial role in bringing a change to the MCU. Soon, Ike Perlmutter was sacked by Disney due to various conflicts.

All things considered, Perlmutter was simply living in the past as he was one of the campaigners for wanting an all-white male Avengers group in the 2012 film.
