Christian Bale is one of the most respected actors of all time. He has seen the heights of fame and worked with the most talented of directors, made audiences fall in love, and hated the character that he plays, and even won Oscar nominations and awards. It is easy to say that he is one of the most beloved actors of all time, with very few who would disagree with this statement.

Knowing this and believing this, it would come off as a great shock for many to find out that he was once arrested for assault, after becoming violent towards his mother and sister during a family row.

Christian Bale Was Arrested
Christian Bale, hours after the European premiere ofThe Dark Knight, was arrested after claims, were made by his mother and sister that the actor lashed out at them in a suite at Park Lane’s Dorchester Hotel. The two women, his mother, Jenny, and his sister, Sharon, went to Hampshire police station to file these allegations formally.
“Christian Bale attended a London police station, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister.”Said Bale’s solicitors,“Mr Bale, who denies the allegation, cooperated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr Bale.”

He was questioned on this, which was followed by his being released on police bail. He voluntarily went to Belgravia police station, where he then took part in a four-hour-long questioning by detectives, which took place 16 hours before he attended the premiere. This was confirmed by a statement released by Bale’s solicitors.
“A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment. He was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He has since been bailed to return on a date in September.”

It was sad that he spoke with the police right before the film’s premiere, Andy allowed him to attend this event, under the condition that he would present himself to his appointment at the police station, the day after. According toThe Independent UK, a policeman explained exactly this, confirming the actor’s statement.

Why Were These Charges Dropped?
These charges were dropped, according toThe Statesboro Herald, because the Crown Prosecution Service believed that there was insufficient evidence to afford a realistic prospect of conviction, asking the police not to take any further actions with this case. Set an added that they take all cases surrounding the domestic context extremely seriously and it is important to them that all accounts or taken into consideration when dealing with cases such as this.
The service said in a statement that while it‘‘treats all incidents which take place in a domestic context seriously, it is important that the views of complainants are also taken into account when making decisions in such cases.’’
Christian Bale has repeatedly refused to comment on this, stating that it is a private matter that he would like to deal with outside of the public eye, not being comfortable with how televised this was becoming. Despite this, he has been adamant about the fact that the accusations are false. He wasn’t the only one to refuse to comment on this, as both his mother and his sister have stated that this is a private matter that they would not like to make public.
