Make no mistake about the fact thatThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Airwas a pure piece of magic. The 90s sitcom is monumental for many reasons. Not only did it introduce the world to Will Smith, who got his first shot at glory in the show, but it brought to life the magical world of Bel-Air, which was more than just its ‘Fresh Prince’.

Credit must be given to every cast member for doing an impeccable job in their own right. But right after the pilot was released, there were a few weak links in the lineup that needed to be removed. And according to the incoming NBC president, one such link was Alfonso Ribeiro.

Alfonso Ribeiro stunned everyone inThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Alfonso Ribeiro portrayed Carlton Banks, a role which would become as popular, if not more, as the protagonist. TheSilver Spoonsstar’s version of Banks would be an absolute hit with the fans, who would fall in love with all his quirks and gags, especially including the famous Carlton Dance.

One wonders what would have happened to the show (and Will Smith’s career) had the 52-year-old not been there. And, years down the line, it turns out that this scenario is not far from reality.

“I auditioned for the character, and got the role. Then, after we did the pilot, [the new president] decided that my character should be recast.”
