In 1955, Adventure Comics #210 introduced the world to Krypto, the Superdog. Otto Binder and Curt Swan designed Krypto, and he first appeared when Jor-El sent his rocket to Earth to see if it would be a good fit for his son Kal-El, aka Superman.

Krypto’s rocket was derailed, causing him to land on Earth long after Superman had become a household name as a protector of justice. Using his abilities to aid Superman in his fight against crime and for the safety of the people of Metropolis, Krypto rapidly rose to become one of the Man of Steel’s closest allies.
As time has passed, Krypto’s prominence in the Superman comics has only increased. He’s fought alongside Superman in battles against some of the Man of Steel’s most dangerous foes, been a member of the Legion of Super-Pets, and gone on his own adventures.
Despite his canine appearance, Krypto has always been portrayed as a complex individual with goals and desires.
