Some kisses can be absolutely unforgettable, doesn’t matter if they are onscreen or off. Oscar-winning actress Helen Hunt can absolutely concur with the statement, as she, too, had a kiss with her co-star that she couldn’t possibly forget. Helen Hunt starred alongside Mel Gibson in the 2000 Rom-Com,What Women Want.
During the shoot for the film, Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt had to perform a passionate kissing scene. While it sounds simple enough, it took the actors almost a day and a half. In fact, the prolonged kissing left a rash on the actress’ face. Despite all of this and more, Helen Hunt did not mind kissing Mel Gibson, who she calls a fantastic kisser!

Helen Hunt Didn’t Mind Kissing Mel Gibson

The kissing scene inWhat Women Wanthad to be filmed over and over again, andHelen Huntclarified that it wasn’t as wonderful as it sounds. She stated that while it could be“some women’s dreams,”the whole thing was just“dizzying”for her.
“I mean, 9 o’clock in the morning to 8 o’clock in the evening and through the next morning. It was honestly dizzying how much we kissed.”
The actress also added that the constant reshoots withMel Gibsonleft her with“no air.”Adding to it all, Gibson was also an avid smoker, and while this could be a turn-off for a majority of people, Hunt couldn’t care less.
“Who cares? A little thing like that can’t make Mel Gibson a bad kisser! No, it was a pleasure. He’s certainly a fantastic kisser in my opinion…For him? I don’t know. He may have been looking at his watch every five minutes. Mel is very perceptive about women. I found him open and willing to listen and curious. That’s a very sexy quality, if someone’s curious and really wants to know what you think…He’s the greatest guy in the world.”
Who would have thought a kissing scene could take more than a day to shoot? It looks like the effortless romance between the actors we see onscreen isn’t nearly as effortless as we believe!

Helen Hunt Developed a Rash from All the Kissing
While kissing Gibson was a“pleasure”for Hunt, there was a little drawback to it all – his stubble. The facial hair of theLethal Weaponactor left a rash on Hunt’s face and she had to ask the makeup team to help her out. She stated,
“So at around 5 o’clock on the first day, I asked Mel’s makeup people to shave him a little because my face was getting chewed up from his stubble.”
Gibson being Gibson, walked onto set the next day with“25 toilet paper marks with fake blood on them.”
Despite the fact that Hunt had to go through some major alterations in her schedule, she managed to make time forWhat Women Want.Gibson played a part in getting Hunt to agree. She stated that the actor wanted her to be in the film which made her“feel terrific”as she“showed up feeling wanted.”Hunt also added that Gibson made her happy all the while she was on set with him.
