He has long been associated with the role as there were once rumors about him refusing the role as Jordan was supposed to die in the script. While the action superstar donning a green cape was what one would have least expected, fans’ are already confused. It is because the DC Studios’ co-CEO, James Gunn has already kicked out Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck from the franchise.

While the DC might consider Cruise in their new plans, fans are having mixed reactions considering that Cruise is already 60 and won’t be able to keep his character for long. Though it won’t create much issue if Warner Bros. decides to kill his character, Cruise wouldn’t agree to it as per the old rumors.

They’re making a younger superman. Older greenlantern isn’t wanted.

Nah, love Tom but he’s too old, sorry.

If we wanna have a Hal Jordan he needs to be 45 at the oldest in his first appearance, otherwise he’ll have to pass the torch to other Lanterns a bit too quickly for my liking

— Bruester (@Bruester02)June 17, 2025

So let me get this straight we’re gonna have a 25 year old Superman, a 62 year old Batman ( assuming that Clooney is Bruce moving forward) and a 60 year old Hal Jordan?? Yeah, DC is dead lol

— Marcus Raynak (@MarcusRaynak)July 31, 2025

God no. Please. No!! This man is 60!! I do not want him as a central star of a franchise that should last around a decade, that’s ridiculous

— Nathan Allen (@MapleBear0123)July 30, 2025

Given that Henry Cavill lost his Superman job because Gunn is writing a younger character for the role which meant that Cavill being old would not fit for the role. Even Ben Affleck who portrayed Batman left the franchise as he was not getting the fun he was looking for in the project. With the two big stars already saying adios to DCU, it remains a mystery as to whether the rumor turns out to be true for the franchise. As for Affleck’s version of Batman, it can be seen inThe Flashwhich is running in theatres.
