How Fans Are Reacting to Kevin Feige’s Latest Marvel Update About the Avengers Reunion
Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel emerged as one of the strongest superheroes on the Avengers roster in the fight against Thanos and by underlining her importance in the television seriesMs. Marvel, Marvel Studios hinted that the character would be the flagbearer of the MCU going forward.
Accordingly, huge expectations have been placed on the upcoming movie,The Marvels. But a report inThe Hollywood Reporterhas revealed that the movie is tracking to open in the $75 million to $80 million range – a sharp decline fromCaptain Marvel’s$153.4 million opening in North America in 2019.

Many experts point to superhero fatigue to explain such predictions and performances at the box office. At the same time, there have been suggestions of Marvel turning to their fallen superheroes like Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to add life to their franchise.
Kevin Feige, during his appearance at the red carpet world premiere event forThe Marvels, was asked about the rumor byEntertainment Tonight. He replied:

“We did not discuss that at the retreat. It’s the truth. We’re doing a project with Scarlett, we love Robert, he’s a part of the family. But in terms of returning? We’ll have to see.”
His coy response only raised more eyebrows on social media, allowing eagle-eyed fans to read the message underneath his words.

That is a non answer by Kevin feige, but it’s the kind of non-answer that leads me to believe that it’s not going to happen. He usually down plays it a lot more if it’s not true

Or there really isn’t any movement either way since no one can negotiate while the strike is ongoing, so he’s just being factual. I do see them coming back as cameos
They could do the AI Tony Stark in the suit thing from the comics, that’d bring him back without undoing anything

What Robert Downey Jr. Said About Potentially Returning to MCU
There’s no doubt the MCU played a huge role in rejuvenating Downey Jr.’s career and making him the highest-paid actor for many years. As such, there’s always going to be a special connection between the makers and the actor, who has kept his doors open to discuss the possibility of a return.
However, the 58-year-old has previously suggested he’d not return just for the sake of it and Marvel writers will have to conjure something meaningful to make things happen. TheChaplinactor said on theJoe Rogan Experiencein 2020:
“There would have to be a super compelling argument and a series of events that made it obvious. But the other thing is, I wanna do other stuff.”
Downey Jr. did get the opportunity to do “other stuff” in Christopher Nolan’sOppenheimer, wherein he portrayed Louis Strauss, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission who later persecuted Oppenheimer for being a Soviet spy. Many fans expect the brilliant actor to win an Oscar for his strong display in the documentary feature.
