Even though the role of Mathayus isn’t considered the Rock’s most memorable portrayal, it sure did push his career forward. He further stated,
I came from the world of wrestling, which was an obstacle to come here because people–I had the sense right away that the people thought oh he’s gonna be in Hollywood maybe a couple of years, make a few movies, and then he’s out. But no, I made the Mummy returns, which Brendan said come into my franchise. He welcomed me in when he didn’t have to and he did and I never forgot it.
