House of the Dragonhas been creating hype recently with the announcement of a second season soon to be released. Continuing the civil war between siblings, the HBO series will once again follow Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra and Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen in a war with the Greens.

With dragons and humans in the mix, the battle was referred to as the Dance of the Dragons in the histories of the Seven Kingdoms. Although several dragons are shown in all their grand splendor, there is one dragon in Westeros that the makers ofHouse of the Dragonmight not show in the HBO series!
House of the DragonMight Not Show Cannibal In The Series
Although in George R.R. Martin’s bookFire and Blood(on which the show is based), there are several dragons throughout the reign of the Targaryens. Starting with Balerion, Vhagar, and Meraxes, Aegon Targaryen I marched (or rather flew) to Westeros and set up the Targaryen empire as we know it.

In the book, there are three wild dragons roaming in and around Dragonstone without a rider. These dragons are wild, unpredictable, and not at all tamable. As per the books, the three dragons are named Sheepstealer, Grey Ghost, and Cannibal. Sheepstealer, as per its name, is fond of animal meat and terrifies all the farmers with their sheep around Dragonstone. Grey Ghost is known for its white scales and ghost-like feature that makes it impossible to see in the clouds.
Cannibal, on the other hand, seems an entirely different case. Much like the name suggests, he is a cannibal dragon who likes to eat other dead (or alive) dragons. Hunting down dragons and devouring them, Cannibal is described as a large black-scaled dragon with green eyes. People often thought that they saw Balerion the Black Dread upon seeing Cannibal!

The dragon’s origin is unknown and Cannibal immediately disappears after the Dance of the Dragons is done. All of this makes Cannibal a mysterious and worthwhile character but to use all of that expense in a show just for the dragon to disappear at the end might just become too costly!

Director Claire Kilner, who shot the brothel scene in the first season ofHouse of the Dragontalked about how she was inspired by a club in Berlin to stage the set-up. In an interview withTHR, the director talked about how she had to change her gaze withMatt Smith’sDaemon Targaryen leading Princess Rhaenyra through the alleyways of King’s Landing.

“I’d grown up on seeing the male gaze [in cinema] — seeing s-x from the male point of view — and I found myself thinking that I don’t even know what the female gaze is. So for that sequence, I actually drew on the fact that when I was 23, somebody took me to a club in Berlin through these dark corridors and into this room where people were just like walking toward one another and ripping one another’s clothes off and having s-x.”
She further continued,
“I thought that this is how it might feel for young Rhaenyra going into this place.”
With a high rating of 8.5/10 on IMDB and a whopping 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, the first season ofHouse of the Dragondebuted to millions of fans wanting to see the Dance of the Dragons. The second season of the HBO series is slated to release in the summer of 2024 on Max.
