This roadmap for the franchise is supported and powered by Activision,“constantly being in the planning phase”,and having up to 3000 developers working on theseCall of Dutytitles. What did Activision’s president say regarding the Call of Duty games being planned till 2027?

“Right now, we have games planned out all the way through ’27 for the things that we’re working on,”Activision president Rob Kostich toldGamesBeat.

“I think we’ve done a lot of games in the future. We probably went as far there as we possibly could. We made some of the games in the past. You start to see the sweet spot over time and what really resonates with the community. You see things like the Modern Warfare and Black Ops franchises are really popular. We’ve certainly had some other games that have done really well, like the original World War II game from Sledgehammer in 2017 did really, really well as well. It’s a balance, I think most importantly, that we feel like we actually need to provide good differentiated experiences, good things for people to get in, and feel like they’re experiencing new kinds of fun.”

Microsoft has finally acquired Activision, but that does not mean that it will be taking Call of Duty away from other companies.

Kostich believed that learning from the past experience is important and a great learning opportunity. He also delved deeper into the“massive focus group around the world who tells us what they think each and every day about the franchise”and how feedback from them helps the team to learn more and perform better.

What can we expect from the Call of Duty franchise?

Activision will remain in touch with dropping aCall of Dutytitle each year, similar to how theModern Warfare 3will be gracing our consoles on November 10th and the uncertain hype of 2024’sCall of Duty. Activision stepped back from its decision to stop the franchise’s annual release model.

A Treyarch-based Call of Duty can be expected next year, and there isn’t much information about its whereabouts. From the initial leaks, it seems likeCall of Duty2024 will take us into the setting of a Gulf War, which surprisingly makes this the first title in the series to land in that particular theatre. This indeed has the correct set of traits for being a Call of Duty game and other franchises, such as the older ‘Conflict’ games.
