Greta Gerwig’s comedy-drama following the popular kids’ toy Barbie has been making records at the box office ever since its release. The movie follows Margot Robbie as Barbie, who questions her world and existence and decides to explore the real world. Released last week in theatres, the movie has already grossed $472.6 million and is expected to cross the mark of $1 billion as well.

And being a critical and commercial success, many have started wondering if the makers would ever come up with a sequel to the movie. However, the filmmaker has potentially denied the possibility of a sequel, saying that she already did everything she has wanted to do.

Converting a blockbuster into a franchise has been a long-time practice in Hollywood. The success of a movie can result in its sequel, prequel, spin-off, or remake. And considering the massive success of theMargot RobbiestarrerBarbieall around the world, the 2023 film is also expected to follow the same.
However, directorGreta Gerwigseemed to have denied such a possibility when she was asked the same during her interview with The New York Times. While she did not say that the movie was a complete story, she stated that for now, it’s all she’s got.

“At this moment, it’s all I’ve got,”she told The New York Times. Gerwig further stated that she gets the same feeling at the end of every movie, the feeling of having done everything she ever wanted to do and not having any new great ideas like the last one.
Talking about a sequel toBarbie, she said that she has no ideas about any follow-up projects for now.“I wouldn’t want to squash anybody else’s dream, but for me, at this moment, I’m at totally zero,”theLittle Womendirector said. However, fans of the movie can still hope for something, as she did not directly deny such a possibility.

The film director has responded to the backlash during her interview with The New York Times, saying that the movie is“an invitation for everybody to be part of the party.”Gerwing shared that she just hopes that people can let go of the things that are not“necessarily serving us as either women or men.”She further addressed people protesting against the movie, saying that she hopes it gives the same relief that it gave to those who like it.
