Mads Mikkelsen Also Gave Advice On Acting In Non-Mother Tongue Films
Mads Mikkelsen also provided advice to one of the young actresses, who asked him about tackling non-mother tongue roles. Mikkelsen revealed that he had done films in multiple languages, most of which he didn’t speak fluently. For him, rehearsal was the key and it allowed him to focus on delivering the best performance without being overly concerned about the language. He added that any language mistakes could be later fixed during the ADR. Mikkelsen shared:
“The trick the first time I did anything in English was to rehearse it and rehearse it and then, once you shoot the scene that’s it, it’s over. If there are mistakes, if people out there are going, ‘Oh my God, what an accent’. So be it. That’s all I could do. Forget it once you get in there, focus on the scene. You cannot be on stage or in front of the camera, focusing on the language. The worst-case scenario is you may fix it later in the ADR sessions later on.”
