But more often than never, he also has co-stars who are involved with him in these sequences. And sometimes, things can go horribly wrong.
While shooting on the sets of 2017’sThe Mummy,theTop Gun: Maverickstar was about to film the famous zero gravity fall scene where they are inside a cargo plane that is falling towards Earth. During this scene, the actors found themselves suspended in mid-air to make this scene as natural as possible. But at this moment, Cruise’s co-star Annabelle Wallis found the safety harness stuck around her neck, and as soon as they will find gravity again, it will tighten around her neck and choke her instantly. Thankfully, her co-star saw this and came to her rescue. She said:
“I was like, ‘Oh my God! I’m stuck and the gravity is going to return and it’s going to choke me,’ The plane was coming out ofweightlessnessabout to hit gravity and I heard the countdown ‘5, 4, 3 …’ At three I said, ‘I’m stuck!’ andTomwas like, ‘Annabelle, don’t worry I got you,’ and he ran and freed me and we returned to earth and he’d saved my life. So I feel very indebted to him. It was literally around my neck choking me, then with two or three seconds left, there he was — the hero.”
