These days, post-credit scenes have become commonplace in big franchises, and theJohn Wickseries has become one a major tentpole in the action genre. Many fans are wondering whether or notJohn Wick: Chapter 4has a post-credits scene and the answer is yes. But what does that post-credits scene entail?
You shoulddefinitelystop reading now if you haven’t seen the movie yet, because we are about tospoilJohn Wick: Chapter 4.
ThroughoutJohn Wick: Chapter 4, we see Reeves’s hitman attempt to battle his way up to a confrontation with the High Table. Along the way, we encounter several allies, including the manager of the Osaka Continental hotel (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his daughter Akira (Rina Sawayama) and the members of the Ruska Roma crime syndicate to which Wick previously belonged.
In the end, John challenges the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) to a duel to the death with the reward of his freedom from the High Table if he reigns victorious. The Marquis elects Caine (Donnie Yen) as his proxy, forcing John to have a standoff against his friend-turned-enemy-turned-pseudo-ally.

In the duel, Caine and John go several rounds, shooting each other — but not fatally. Finally, Caine fires a shot off that cripples John, sending him to the ground. The egotistical Marquis claims the right to execute John himself, taking Caine’s pistol from him. Before the Marquis is able to kill Wick, Winston informs him that John never fired his gun in the previous round, meaning that the Marquis is now directly in his crosshairs. John fires and kills the Marquis, freeing him of his obligation to the High Table.
However, this freedom is short-lived, as one of the wounds that John had received in the previous rounds with Caine proved to be fatal. As John descends the steps that he had previously fought up to reach the duel, he collapses and dies at peace, having finally earned his freedom again from the High Table and fought for his wife.
Although this is (presumably) the end of the part of theJohn Wicksaga starring Keanu Reeves as the titular hitman, we know that there are already several spin-offs in development, including the television showThe Continentaland the Ana de Armas-led, female-centricBallerina. As such, it should come as no surprise to viewers that there is a post-credits scene teasing the future of the franchise.
The post-credits scene, while extremely brief, sets up a future conflict involving some of the secondary characters in the film. We see Caine walking through the streets on his own before we see a figure approaching him. Soon that figure is revealed to be Akira, the daughter of Wick’s ally — the manager of the Osaka Continental hotel. She pulls her weapon, presumably to attempt to kill Caine.
This scene ties back to the film’s epic first act, which takes place in Japan, in which Caine killed Akira’s father. With this scene, it seems clear that Akira is seeking vengeance against her father’s killer. Where this scene will lead is more unclear. It is possible that Sawayama’s character ends up becoming a pivotal player in one of the spin-offs, such asBallerinaorThe Continental. Either would make sense — as Sawayama could make for a great addition to the female-led cast of the spin-off, or she could take over her father’s duties as the manager of the Osaka Continental and play a role in that series.
