The one undeniable fact, however, is that despite all of these highly influential characters, there is one that stands out in the most perfect way possible. The one that the actor embodied and made into a part of his very essence. That of Captain Jack Sparrow from thePirates of the Caribbeanseries. Using any words other than iconic would be insulting to his character.
Not only does he have a unique and distinctive personality, he follows a similar pattern when it comes to his look. Having beads in his hair and a braided mustache has become his trademark. The look, however, is not complete without the ample amount of makeup he uses, which fits perfectly well with his larger-than-life personality. What many might not know, however, is that the eyeliner that is his signature became a part of his look by accident, thanks to certain members of the make-up department on the first film.

Johnny Depp’s Eyeliner Was An Accident

So much so, that it has become a trend online for many to imitate and recreate it. It is interesting to find out, that the distinctive smudged eyeliner, wasn’t initially part of the script.
While filming in a cave, the make-up artists on set decided to add a lot of product to the actor’s face, in order to ensure that he did not look ashen. The eyeliner was a part of it. Very soon, everyone realized how amazing it looked, and decided to go with it, continuing to use it for the rest of the franchise.

Johnny Depp Began To Fall In Love With The Eyeliner
Quickly, Johnny Depp got very intrigued by the make-up aspect of the character and loved how the eyeliner looked on him. According to theInquirer, it was revealed by the lead make-up artist, Ve Neill that Depp would often keep asking the makeup artist to add more and more eyeliner.
“We put eyeliner on Johnny, and he said, ‘That looks great. Let’s put more on,’ “he went on,“It became a joke. We’d say, ‘More black! More black!’ “
He went on to reveal that the actor would go so far as to ask the crew to reapply it every two to three hours. It became such a frequently occurring thing, that it became a matter of amusement among the makeup artists, who would joke about Depp continuously asking for ‘more black under his eyes.’
