MCU mastermind and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has reportedly let go of the writers of the upcoming Disney+ showDaredevil: Born Again. In what is being termed as a ‘creative overhaul’, Feige reportedly saw the finished episodes of the show and was disappointed by the direction of the series.

The show would have seen Charlie Cox return as Matt Murdock after starring in the Netflix seriesDaredevil.The Netflix series was prematurely canceled after its third season, despite being a critical and commercial success.

Why Was Charlie Cox’sDaredevilCanceled?
The Netflix-Marvel seriesDaredevil, starringCharlie Coxas the ‘Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’ was a fan favorite. The noir-esque direction of the series, combined with brilliant action made it a critical favorite. The success of the series also prompted the emergence ofLuke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher,andIron Fist, all set in the same continuity.
Cox’sDaredevilwas supposed to be renewed for a fourth season after the acclaim received by the third season. However, the show and all subsequent Netflix-Marvel series were canceled. It was speculated that Marvel wanted to produce their own streaming content for Disney’s platform Disney+, leading to the cancellation of the series.

Kevin Feige reportedly contacted Charlie Cox to reprise his role as Matt Murdock in the MCU. He made his official debut inSpider-Man: No Way Home, in a small cameo appearance. He also appeared in the Disney+ seriesShe-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Marvel announced that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil would be returning in a show titledDaredevil: Born Again.

The show was commissioned with an eighteen-episode first season, set to debut in 2023. However, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes prompted a halt in the production of the series, pushing the release to 2025.

Kevin Feige Let Go Of The Head Writers OfDaredevil: Born Again
It was reported earlier thatKevin Feigehad watched a version of the series and was disappointed with the output. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he let go of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman, as well as the rest of the directors commissioned for the season.
The decision was labeled as a ‘creative overhaul’ of the TV division of Marvel. According to sources atThe Hollywood Reporter, the show was not working for Feige as it was packaged as a legal-procedural show as opposed to the action-heavy tone of the Netflix series. The article said,
“Sources say that Corman and Ord crafted a legal procedural that did not resemble the Netflix version, known for its action and violence. Cox didn’t even show up in costume until the fourth episode. Marvel, after greenlighting the concept, found itself needing to rethink the original intention of the show.”
The decision comes at a time when the Disney+ streaming shows by Kevin Feige seem to not work as well as the glory days of the MCU. Its most recent show, the Samuel L. Jackson starrerSecret Invasionreceived terrible reviews from critics and fans alike.
