Mark Wahlberg has achieved immense success across genres in Hollywood. While he had intended to retire at 40, his passion for making films forced him to stay in the industry. It turned out to be fortunate for him, as he became the highest-paid actor in the world in 2017. However, there’s one genre that Wahlberg feels that he hasn’t explored enough in Hollywood — rom-com.

Undoubtedly, fans have seen him in some exceptional comedies likeTedandThe Other Guys, and some less impressive ones likeDaddy’s Home 2. While Wahlberg has made a cameo appearance in the chaotic rom-com film,Date Night, he’s yet to star in one of his own.

After Earning Millions In Big Budget Films, Mark Wahlberg Aims For Rom-Coms Next
In a 2020 interview with The Guardian,Mark Wahlbergopened up about his career path and reflected on some of his achievements. Wahlberg was promoting his film,Spenser Confidential, an action comedy film. WhileThe Basketball Diariesactor has numerous films from different genres to his name, he revealed rom-coms to be his next big aspiration.
However, Wahlberg has one condition to take on the role in a rom-com film. He shared that the film should not have any singing or dancing for his part. TheLone Survivoractor had done his fair share of singing and dancing in films likeRock StarandDaddy’s Home. However, he shared that he felt ridiculous during such scenes and described them as his least favorite thing to do. Wahlberg shared withThe Guardian:

“I’d be into it! But nothing with singing and dancing in it. I’m not doing a musical. I’ve had to sing and dance more than I’ve wanted to… in films. And it’s my least favourite thing to do. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not really self-conscious and I’m not scared to look vulnerable, or risk looking ridiculous, but I don’t know… I feel ridiculous when I’m dancing and singing.”
Interestingly, before he entered the film industry, Wahlberg had tried his luck in the music industry. While he entered the music arena through his brother Donnie Wahlberg’s boy band ‘New Kids on the Block’, it was his hip-hop group ‘Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch’ that earned him a reputation.
