Marvel Did Not Approve Of The Alternate Script
Jeff Bridges revealed that during the initial stages of production forIron Man,himself, Jon Favreau, and Robert Downey Jr. had collaborated on an adapted rendition of the script. Despite their efforts, Marvel Studios declined permission to incorporate their version.
Jeff Bridges said (viaLooper):
“We spent a couple of weeks working on the script, rehearsing together, because we didn’t like the original script and we thought, ‘Oh yeah, we fixed this, fixed that.’ And then came the first day of shooting, and Marvel kind of threw out our script that we had been working on, said, ‘No, that’s no good. It’s gotta be this, that.’ And so there was a lot of confusion about what our script was, what we were gonna say, ya know?”
Recalling the frustration caused by the alteration in the script and Marvel’s unwavering commitment to its creative plan, Bridges revealed toThe Hollywood Reporterin 2016 that they had undergone a rigorous two-week rehearsal process and essentially overhauled the entire film, only to find themselves swiftly reverting everything back to the original setup.

Robert Downey Got Iron Man’s Role Because Of His Low Salary

In this pursuit, they saw Downey Jr. as a notably economical option, challenging the norms of traditional casting expectations.
