Rumors about the involvement of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man inAvengers: Secret Warshave been circulating on the internet for some time now. Recently, reports from inside scoopers suggested that both actors would play the leads in theMultiverse Sagafinale. However, upon second thoughts, this news seems like a far-fetched idea.

Jackman and Maguire are undoubtedly fan-favorite heroes, but they’re not the MCU’s heroes and were added to the Marvel roster only to play with the audience’s nostalgia. It makes no sense for Marvel Studios to have them lead one of the most important films in their current lineup.

Hugh Jackman And Tobey Maguire As Leads Makes No Sense For The MCU
Hugh JackmanandTobey Maguire’s appearance inAvengers: Secret Warswould definitely be a welcoming move, but making them the leads is a questionable idea. According to some sources, the Earth’s mightiest heroes will be defeated by the Council of Kangs inAvengers: The Kang Dynasty. Maguire’s Spider-Man and Jackman’s Wolverine will lead TVA’s two multiversal teams, helping Earth-616 in their war against Kangs inAvengers: Secret Wars.
While the idea excited many, it would be a disservice to the fans and current actors of the MCU to rely on the nostalgic heroes from the 2000s for theMultiverse Sagafinale. For one, both actors are well into their 50s and bid farewell to these characters in their prime. Although Maguire returned for an extended cameo inSpider-Man: No Way Homeand Jackman is set to reprise his role inDeadpool 3, these roles are intended as a fun throwback and nothing more.

The rumors also suggested thatTom HollandandTom Hiddleston’s characters play key roles. However, that may also not be entirely true. It is highly unlikely that Marvel will place all their bets on Spider-Man to carry forward their multiversal storyline. Holland’s Spider-Man appearance in the MCU is based on a vulnerable deal with Sony, which was on the verge of falling apart multiple times.
Hiddleston also hinted multiple times that the epicLoki Season 2concluded his fourteen years of the journey with the character. However, the TVA and Sylvie from the series may play key roles inSecret Wars. The reports also notably missed out on Doctor Strange’s role in the film.
