Awards season is officially underway and the nominations for the Critics Choice Awards are out. There is a lot to play for in a year that has seen many eclectic films come to the fore. A lot of expected names like Emily Blunt, America Ferrera, and Julianne Moore have made the Supporting Actress nomination list for their impressive performances.

On closer scrutiny though, the nominations in this category have a glaring omission. While the Marvel franchise has not quite set the box office on fire this year, a lot of their stars have proved that they are actors to reckon with outside of the franchise as well. Unfortunately, none of them feature in the list of Best Supporting Actress.

Marvel Stars Fail To Feature in Supporting Actress Nominations

There’s a lot at stake this awards season with many stunning performances fighting for the top spots. While the MCU has produced many memorable performances from its female stars, the Critics Choice Awards nominations do not feature any Marvel actress in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Over the years, Marvel has had the honor of casting many actresses of repute includingScarlett Johansson, Oscar winnersNatalie Portmanand Gwyneth Paltrow, Elizabeth Olsen, and many more. Johansson and Portman have also had successful films in 2023, with the former impressing inAsteroid City,and the latter delivering a solid performance inMay December.

Despite their efforts, the two Marvel stars have not been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category. In addition, veteran actor and Oscar winner Tilda Swinton who is an integral part of the MCU, had prominent roles inAsteroid City, The Killer,andProblemista, but has not made it to the Critics Choice list.

2024 Looks Promising For Marvel

Marvel stars may not be ruling the roost in the award nominations for 2024, but the year looks to be a promising one for Kevin Feige and the franchise. Feige and his team are now working towards a packed schedule in 2024 which includes the highly anticipatedDeadpool 3. However, the Ryan Reynolds starrer isn’t the only marquee MCU project for the year.

In a press release, Disney officially laid out the plans for Marvel television shows that will be released on Disney+ in 2024. Among them isEcho,which is already confirmed to air on January 10th, 2024, whileAgatha:DarkholdDiariesand the animated revival seriesX-Men ‘97are also looking at a release next year, with the dates still to be announced.

With a few more Marvel animated series having completed production and awaiting release, 2024 may just be the MCU’s big year, after the last few mediocre outings on the big screen. WithDeadpool 3’shype already gaining momentum, the franchise looks to be back on track.
