Pratt’s movie is the 20th highest-earning film of all time in Japan and the highest-earning Universal Pictures in Japan. However, despite immense success in Western countries the animated film struggled to have a decent box office record in Japan.

The project was immensely important for Pratt because as a kid, the actor had played Mario games for“probably a thousand hours,”if not more. Fittingly, when theGuardians of the Galaxyactor would play the game with his siblings, he would choose the Italian Plumber.
