The romantic dramaThe Graduatewas described as one of the funniest romantic American comedy movies of the year in 1967. The star cast of the movie entertained people with its incredible acting skills and the storyline of course did its magic.
Dustin Hoffman portrayed the role of Benjamin Braddock, Anne Bancroft played the role of Mrs. Robinson, and Elaine Robinson was played by Katharine Ross. As per the reports, before Hoffman was selected to play the part of the protagonist in the movie Robert Redford also wanted to portray the lead character in the movie.

The movieThe Graduatewas released on the big screens on 12 July 2025. Mike Nichols directed the movie and he was the one who didn’t hireRobert Redfordto play the lead character in the movie. The 86-year-old actor was one of the most handsome and dapper actors in the 60s. He had a massive fan following. When theCloserdirector was asked about theOut of Africaactor, the director said,
“I said, ‘You can’t play it. You can never play a loser.’ And Redford said, ‘What do you mean? Of course I can play a loser.’ And I said, ‘OK, have you ever struck out with a girl?’ and he said, ‘What do you mean?’ And he wasn’t joking.”
As Redford had never faced rejection from any woman according to Nichols, the director thought he wasn’t the ideal choice to play a loser in the film.

“It’s hard to believe you can do good work for the little amount of money these days. We did The Graduate and that film still sustains, it had a wonderful script that they spent three years on, and an exceptional director with an exceptional cast and crew, but it was a small movie, four walls and actors, that is all, and yet it was 100 days of shooting.”
