Sony announced a new PS5 console that will hit the market during the holiday season. It could be a massive blow to the Xbox Series X with reduced weight and the introduction of attachable internal storage. The rivalry between Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox is eternal. Even though they have a healthy rivalry, their loyal followers are always in heated arguments with each other.
The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S were released at the same time as the PlayStation 5. Just like the PlayStation 4 had a slim version, Sony recently announced the launch of their new PlayStation 5 Slim version. There was a lot of hype surrounding the new console. Now that it has been officially confirmed, console gamers can hardly contain their excitement.
PS5 Slim Could Be A Game Changer For Sony
For now, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S are going on par with Sony’s PS5. But with the PS5 Slim coming to the market, they are going to have the upper hand in the console wars. While most of the features remain the same, the two categories have received an update, which will prove to be a game changer. PS5 Slim will have its weight reduced, and SSD increased to their previous version.

The PlayStation 5 will have 30% less volume and 18% and 24% less weight than the previous version of the PS5. It will greatly help the users by saving up more physical space. Another feature that will be introduced is an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1 TB SSD for more internal storage. Even though it will have fewer processing units than the Xbox, it is way ahead in sequential SSD speed.
PlayStation 5 Slim will provide gamers with a sequential SSD speed of 5.5 GB/s, compared to Xbox Series X’s 4.8 GB/s. It will be the fastest console on the market. PS5 will provide gamers with the same horsepower in less weight and have increased SSD speed. With this new console, the gaming festival is knocking on the door.

PlayStation 5 Slim will see a certain percentage hike in prices. In the USA, it will cost 449.99 USD, compared to the 399.99 USD of the PS5. The attachable disc drive will cost extra. Europe, the United Kingdom, and Japan will also see a price hike on their consoles.

The vertical stand that used to come with the console will have to be bought separately for the PS5 Slim. New shades will also be available for the PS5 Slim in early 2024. These shades include Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. Sony did not only focus on the interior and performance; it also worked hard on the exterior.
People can buy the digital version and if they feel like, they can later upgrade it to the disc version. From an overall viewpoint, the PlayStation 5 looks great. Less weight and faster performance could be Sony’s victory moment in the Xbox and PlayStation rivalry. People are excited about the news and are eagerly waiting for the release date.
