A Classic Fake-Out Reveal
The announcement came after a clever misdirection. Earlier in the Summer Game Fest show, Capcom representatives appeared on stage to celebrate Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary but told audiencesthey’d have to wait longer for news about the next game. The game followsGrace Ashcroft, an FBI agent who gets assigned to investigate a mysterious illness causing multiple deaths. Grace appears to be connected to theAshcroft family from previous Resident Evil games, specifically Alyssa Ashcroft from the Outbreak series. The trailer shows Grace receiving her assignment at the FBI bureau before heading to investigate the hotel. As expected in a Resident Evil game, things quickly go wrong, and she finds herself fighting for survival.
Early Demo Coming
While the full game launches inFebruary 2026, fans won’t have to wait that long to try it. A playable demo will be available at Gamescom inAugust 2025, giving attendees their first hands-on experience with the new entry.
