Compulsion Games’ upcoming action-adventure game, South of Midnight, finally has a confirmed release date. The game was originally revealed as a passion project from a relatively small studio back in 2023. Since then, Compulsion Games has vastly expanded upon their original vision for the game, molding it into a narrative-driven action adventure.
South of Midnight is an intriguing take on fantasy with a “modern” twist. In terms of gameplay, the game heavily borrows elements from the souls-like and character-action genres. While the game is still mostly under wraps, at least it finally has a conclusive release date as well as its pre-order details available to players.

South of Midnight Release Date and Platforms
South of Midnight is scheduled to be released onApril 8, 2025. However, if you pre-order thePremium Edition, you can play the game5 days early, i.e., onApril 3, 2025. The game is releasing as anXbox console exclusive(Xbox Series X|S), which is expected considering Compulsion Games is a Microsoft-owned studio. However, that’s not to say the game will not arrive on other platforms, i.e., PlayStation and Nintendo. Microsoft has been quite active in bringing its first-party title over to other (competitor) platforms. The first wave of these titles wasHi-Fi-RushandSea of Thieves.
Furthermore, titles likeIndiana Jones and the Great Circleandthe upcomingDoom The Dark Agesare already confirmed for a PS5 release. In fact, Doom: The Dark Ages is releasing simultaneously on all platforms. As such, it’s quite likely that South of Midnight will also arrive on other console platforms, albeit after a certain amount of time post-launch.
However, as of writing this article, Compulsion Games or Xbox Game Studios has not revealed any details regarding it. The game is also releasing on PC (via Steam and Xbox App) on the same day as the Xbox version. Additionally, South of Midnight will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
South of Midnight Editions and Prices
Although South of Midnight isn’t a Triple-A title, it does feature some elements of those games. For instance, the game ships in two different editions:StandardandPremium. However, due to it being a Double-A production (backed by Xbox Game Studios), it’s priced at$40, as opposed to the $70, which is standard for current-gen Triple-A games.
The Standard Edition comes with just the base game. Whereas the Premium Edition, which is priced at $10 higher, comes with a few extra in-game goodies. Here’s a breakdown of the two editions:

Surprisingly enough, there are no pre-order bonuses for South of Midnight (apart from the early access). Also, it should be noted that the early access incentive is only available for thePremium Editionof the game.
