Superman is currently injured and recovering from his latest fight in DC Comics with the help of Lois Lane. With James Gunn adapting the same comics into the DCU, the director would be quite grateful if he were to use the latest foe in his upcoming movie.

Zack Snyder depicted Doomsday in his 2016Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a movie James Gunn could learn quite well from, when it comes to its questionable CGI. Having the responsibility to directSuperman: Legacy,Gunn has quite a plethora of ideas that he can adapt.
James Gunn Can Learn From Zack Snyder’s CGI-Fest
Back in 2016, Zack Snyder releasedBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceto rave reviews all over the world. One thing that was highly trolled was the finale of the 2016 movie. With Batman and Superman joining hands and Wonder Woman coming to help them out, the trio fought Doomsday, a villain of Lex Luthor’s creation.

In the recent DC Comics, Superman is fighting a similar style of villain called The Chained. Being another one of Lex Luthor’s creations, The Chained was deemed too dangerous for the world and hence was… chained. Superman accidentally unchains the supervillain and The Chained is free to wreak havoc in the Man of Steel’s world.
With how Zack Snyder created a CGI-riddled finale at the end of his 2016 movie, James Gunn could indeed learn how to make it better. SinceJames Gunnis tasked with the responsibility of directingSuperman: Legacy,Gunn could easily pick The Chained as his supervillain but make him better CGI-wise so that the DCU could be established as a dark and gritty universe once again!

James Gunn proved himself as a champion when he joined the DCEU in 2021 and releasedThe Suicide Squad. Before Gunn, David Ayer tried to make the franchise work but there were several studio limitations for the director. David Ayer revealed on hisX(formerly Twitter) that Jared Leto’s Joker shown in the film was way different than what he had envisioned!

“Joker is formidable intense and a force of nature in my cut. Not unfocused and silly. In my cut he has a story arc that hangs powerfully over the entire film. In the studio cut he’s a prop not a character.”
With James Gunn and Peter Safran being the new co-heads of the DCU, there is a possibility that David Ayer’s cut ofSuicide Squadmight see the light of day one day. Till then, James Gunn is currently involved in writing and directingSuperman: Legacy.Starring David Corenswet in the lead role, the movie is set for a release date of 01 July 2025 in theaters across the U.S.
