It seems like Emily Blunt would rather “act tough” than play stereotypically strong and independent female characters. Instead, she would probably prefer to decline the role altogether.

But she made it clear that she was unable to perform the job due to ‌scheduling conflicts. She once remarked onThe Howard Stern Show:

Over the years, Blunt’s opinion on superhero features has remained largely constant. She admitted in 2012 that she stayed away from superhero movies, in part because of the way female characters were handled in the movies. She found the roles played by the men to be much more intriguing than those of the women.

Additionally, A Quiet Placeactress once admitted to Vulture that:

“Usually the female parts in a superhero film feel thankless. She’s the pill girlfriend while the guys are whizzing around saving the world. I didn’t do the other ones because the part wasn’t very good or the timing wasn’t right, but I’m open to any kind of genre if the part is great and fun and different and a challenge in some way.”

Will Emily Blunt play Sue Storm inThe Fantastic Four?

There were also persistent rumors that Emily Blunt was a contender to play Sue Storm, a superhero, in the upcomingFantastic Fourmovie. But she clarified her reasons for not wanting to work on superhero projects while claiming the rumors weren’t true.

TheEdge of Tomorrowactress is said to be a great fit to play Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman) in Marvel’s upcomingFantastic Four, according to a number of online rumors. But the role has now reportedly been bagged by theBarbieactress,Margot Robbie.

Fans’ hopes were further rekindled by Blunt’s response to the rumors, in which she claimed that no one had approached her about the part. This gave rise to the theory that, if Marvel Studios did approach her, she might have accepted the role.

She confessed:

“I don’t know if superheroes are for me. They’re not up my alley. I think it’s been exhausted. I think we are inundated. It’s not only all the movies, it’s the endless TV shows as well. And it’s not to say that I would never want to play one, it would just have to be something so cool, and like a really cool character. Then I’d be interested. But in general, I don’t race to see superhero movies. Maybe because I feel they leave me feeling a bit cold.”

Thus, the 40-year-old actress may no longer be in the running for the Sue Storm role because, at the end of the day, it is a superhero character.

And the script will portray her in such a way that she comes off as a strong and intense female character, which is precisely what Blunt seems to dislike.
