The current DC Extended Universe (DCEU) remains a chain of disasters while Warner Bros are anticipating the new DC Universe (DCU) under the leadership of James Gunn. While the new take and the soft reboot aspect have received mostly mixed responses from the audiences, the recent DC projects announced under Gunn’s leadership are intriguing and vastly diverse ranging from TV series to movies and games. One of the fascinating movies announced wasBatman: The Brave and The Bold, which would feature Batman with his son Damian Wayne. But the project seems far off from the start of production based on Gunn’s recent comments.

The Current Strikes in Hollywood have Put Hollywood in a Limbo
Hollywood is currently going through the writers’ and actors’ strikes. This has put every big studio production in limbo where no work can happen and no actor is able to do any work. This has led to delays in scheduled production dates and releases of movies. So obviously, casting and creative decision-making in big studio productions have stopped for the time being.
This is reflected in a recent comment made byJames Gunnwhen asked by a fan about casting rumors about his Batman film. He simply said,

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but we don’t even have a script, and there’s a strike happening, so, no, no casting.”
It is sufficient to say that the recently announced Batman film and its process of pre-production or even its casting have been affected by the ongoing strikes. It will be quite a while before it can gain momentum again and fans get some positive updates regarding the project.

The DCU will Take its Time in its Initiation Phase
James Gunn plans to take his time with his leadership and the projects that are going to be released under his guidance. His first film will beSuperman Legacywhich is almost 2 years away. Plus, the ongoing strikes have put every production on hold. Thus, Gunn has ample time to plan out his universe which is interesting and a perfect manifestation of his vision. Being a distinct filmmaker with a unique style, one can expect James to bring something new to the DC brand with a plethora of characters that are mostly unknown or a deep cut from the DC lore.
With the back-to-back failures of the recent DC projects, one hopes that Gunn will bring back the glory days of the brand and make audiences fall in love with the characters once again.
