The Marvel universe canon keeps on increasing in its tenor and range and it’s not even surprising at this point. With the upcoming animated film,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseset to make its premiere soon, extraordinary rumors have now set up shop in the months adding up to the launch.

The first film in what is set to be a trilogy had already been received beyond favorably by audiences and critics alike.Into the Spider-Versenot only definitively introduced the multiverse to the Marvel audience but gave the creative executives an iconic meme to recreate in live-action as well.

And just as the sequel is about to drop and continue with the adventure of Miles Morales and his multiversal Spider-gang, the incredulous rumors taking up the spotlight have now raised the bar regarding what’s to come.
Across the Spider-VerseSet to Witness MCU’s Tom Holland?
The new era of Marvel has revolutionized the concept of the multiverse. With Sony’s animated film using the concept in its core discourse, the multiple dimensions colliding and raining all kinds of shenanigans upon the Spider-Men and Women from all over the place,Into the Spider-Versehad exceeded the expectations people harbored from Sony when it came to a perfectly balanced story, MC arc, plot, delivery, and execution.

Now withAcross the Spider-Verseset to further that story which began in 2018 with Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales, rumors have been frittering about that are already raising the bar even higher for the sequel. Reports claim that the multiversal adventure will now witness MCU’s very own Tom Holland as Spider-Man in the animated sequel for a quick cameo role. Moreover, the multiverse will allow Holland to appear in his live-action entirety in the film, which will definitely make for an interesting turn of events withinAcross the Spider-Verse‘s arc of progression.
Can a MCU Spider-Man Cameo Be Favorable to Sony?
For years, Sony has negotiated with Marvel and Disney for a favorable business that allows all parties to use the Spider-Man IP without the limits of legalities straining the studios to deliver a well-rounded experience for the audience and fans of Marvel comics. As such, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is essentially a character borrowed rather than owned by Marvel.
Given how the studio has not only been able to execute the IP properly and stream in profits for both Sony and Disney but also bring along Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield for a massive showdown inNo Way Home, it’s only right that Marvel returns the favor when it comes to Sony’sAcross the Spider-Verse.The theory further supports itself because of Christopher Miller’s cryptic,“Anything is possible in the multiverse,”when asked whether a Holland cameo can be expected in the sequel.

Moreover, withDoctor Strange 2introducing a whole other realm of multiversal dimensions that contains a neon-tinted paint-people universe within its live-action narrative, it should not be surprising to include a live-action universe within an animated film that is exploring the multiverse. And since each Spider-Man, Gwen, Ham, and Noir are all individually separate from each other, each from their own realities, and different worlds with completely different lives to get back to, there is no reason why the MCU can’t canonically exist withinAcross the Spider-Verseas well.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versepremieres on August 18, 2025.Beyond the Spider-Verseis scheduled for launch on 01 July 2025.
