After fivePirates of the Caribbeaninstallments,Johnny Depp opened up about his experience with the franchise, and how Disney looked to oust him from the role of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Johnny Depp, according to reports that popped up in 2018 after he was done withPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017),expressed that he had disagreements with the studio after the first installment.
Depp, in an interview with GQ, said that he didn’t like the story becoming complicated starting withPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest(2006),and clashed with the execs on the matter a couple of times.

Johnny Depp Recalls Being Bewildered By Subplots

Depp expressed his confusion talking to EW –

“They had to invent a trilogy out of nowhere. It was plot-driven and complicated. I remember talking to[Gore Verbinski]at certain points during the production of 2 or 3, and saying, ‘I don’t really know what this means.’ He said, ‘Neither do I, but let’s just shoot it.’ This guy is this guy’s dad, and this guy was in love with this broad. It was like, ‘What?’”
He further elaborated that the threequel’s even more confusing subplots had pushed him to the point that he thought about departing from the franchise.

Johnny Depp Said Disney Hated His Portrayal Of Jack Sparrow
Even though the franchise accumulated a whopping $4.5 billion in global sales, Disney was unsatisfied With Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.
The now 60-year-old actor recalled that the studio wanted to sideline him at all costs in a 2018 interview with GQ.

“Disney hated me. They were thinking of every way they could to get rid of me, to fire me.” He added, ‘What’s wrong with his arms?’ ‘Is he drunk?’ ‘Is he mentally f**king stupefied?’”
In another 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, Depp divulged what he told Disney years ago –
“Why must you have these fking heinous subplots? It’s convoluted. There is not a fking soul that wants to see Captain Jack Sparrow sad.”
