Since one of the most popular roles of his career is playing the role of Heimdall in the MCU, English actor Idris Elba is no stranger to the world of comic book roles in the film industry, which also happens to be a gateway into the action genre of films, where again, he has left his mark for his TV series as well as subsequent filmLuther.

These roles and many more have made his resume one of the most illustrious in the business, only made more prominent with his most recent comic book endeavor in 2021’sThe Suicide Squaddirected by DC Films CEO James Gunn. But when asked whether he would like to play another superhero from the DCEU, he had things to say about it.
Idris Elba Doesn’t Think He’s Suited To Play Batman
The beauty of a film role is when the star believes that he can play the role he’s offered with the utmost certainty, which further helps them to execute the performance to near perfection. And like most stars in the industry,Idris Elbabelieves in the same, which is why almost all of his roles in his career have been nothing but exemplary. Therefore, when he was asked whether he would be willing to play the caped crusader from the pages of DC Comics, he simply replied by saying it wasn’t for him.
During a past interview, theSonic The Hedgehog 2star talked about his then-upcoming filmLuther: The Fallen Sun,he was asked about what his best films were that he was a part of and other similar questions. Then, seeing as he was a part ofThe Suicide Squadas Bloodsport as well as as the gatekeeper of the Bifrost Bridge in the MCU, the interviewer asked him whether he wished to play Batman in the future. Hearing this, the star said that he just couldn’t picture himself as the character, so he doesn’t think he will. Talking withTimeout, he said:

“That’d be an interesting spin. Would I play another superhero? Well, I have two characters that I love playing – [Suicide Squad’s] Bloodsport and Hobbs and Shaw’s Brixton – and I played Heimdall, who I think is underserved in the Marvel universe. If you want some thrills and spills and some fucking badassery, Brixton is the guy. He’d slap Luther to death – he’s a monster. I really love that character. Bloodsport has got a lot of potential in that superhero space, too. I don’t think Batman would be me but I’ve got some others that would rival him.”
This wasn’t the first time he has rejected a high-profile role, in fact, when he was being speculated to play the next Bond in the007franchise, he relayed his wish of not being interested in it.

What Will Happen With Batman In The Future?
After the exit of Ben Affleck as the vigilante of Gotham City, there has been a big question mark on what will happen to the character of Batman in James Gunn’s new DCU. While Robert Pattinson exists as Bruce Wayne inThe Batman,he has been relegated to DC’s Elseworlds series along with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
As for Batman in the main series, Gunn has informed the fans about a new face for the character that will soon be revealed along with a new story in the proposedThe Brave and The Bold, which is part of the new timeline and vision of the director for the DCU as the first phase of the new cinematic universe.
